Extended Handlebar Throttle Cables plus Brake and Clutch Hydraulic Hoses
02/13/23 9:06 PM

Has anyone ran across a manufacture that sells extended front brake lines, extended clutch lines and extended throttle cables for the 2014 ZX-14R? Thinking about modify my riding position to a more upright position. I do have a slightly extended front brake line from Spiegler but would like longer

Thanks,

Teratech

Don't cry about custom lengths prices. Call and make sure you measure twice. Had Harley throttle cables custom made. Maybe 80 bucks a cable. High quality.

Thanks Hub for the link. I need to come up with exact lengths to go with totally custom cables. I was thinking that the cables would be pre-made to specific lengths. This is the best option I have seen so far.

After extensive searching, I finally found the cable extensions that allowed me to mount standard handlebars to the ZX14R. What ended up needing to be extended, was the hydraulic lines, both clutch and brake. I deterred that the clutch line needed to be extended 4" and the front brake line needed to be extended 7".

The 4" extension I found was a rigid line that has Banjo connectors on both ends. These parts come with a Banjo connector coupling bolt that allows you to tie two Banjo type connectors together. These kits were the only way I was able to locate these Banjo connector couplers. I got two of these kits just to get the Banjo connector coupler I needed for the brake line. Here is the link information to find these parts on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/393415826746

For the brake line, I had a custom 7" flexible hose made with Banjo connectors on both ends. I used a coupler from one of the 4" extension kits to get this hose to connect to the existing front brake line. Here is the eBay link to the custom cable maker. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114499424575.

I know most riders will accuse me of blaspheme for removing the clip-on factory handlebars. But, I am nearly 70 years old and sitting in the stack position was killing my lower back after 30 minutes. I went for a 90 minute ride yesterday with no back pain during or after the ride. The bike is now very comfortable for me.

I have pictures to show how it turned out. However, I am unable to figure out how to show the pictures here. I don't have access to provide a URL to link to the pictures. I tried to upload, but could not see the photos after they were uploaded. Sorry!

Nevermind, I figured it out....

I installed convertibars on mine and I only had to replace the brake hose. I was amazed how long the clutch hose was. I rerouted all the electrical wires and flipped the throttle cables. I'm 5" higher and 4" back. Almost upright.
Now, I'm too far from the screen at higher speeds.
My levers fit inside the fairing pockets.
I did my conversion over 6 years ago.

Custom fitting my Bike to me made all the difference in traveling. I may look "dorky"; I do not care.
No other motorcycle is like our 14r.

I have another question: if I install the 9-inch Harley handlebar, will the stock wires be long enough to reach the end of the handlebar, or will I need to purchase extended wires? If extensions are required, could you please provide a link to where I can buy them for the ZX14r?

I'm working on my nephews shovelhead who bought extended bars. I had to measure and have Barnett make an 8" over extended clutch cable, and an extended throttle cable. Front brake cable came with an extended inner and outer cables so that was easy to measure and cut.

Problem 1: Harley is a 1" bar and the majority of the rest of the industry use 7/8" which means the switches won't fit.

Solve problem 1: Design a cut 7/8" bar to hold the switches. Better yet, use E6000 or Amazing Goop Glue to mount it anyplace you want. No hardware needed, no wire extensions needed. No damage to switch or where mounted when removed. Glued to the side of the bars and however far up for the turn signal switch, that glue dries fully, you can press the switch button in all day long, that switch won't move from its glued place.

Problem 2: Call Barnett and ask to extend the matching [14's] throttle body ends to a late model Harley throttle assembly. Harley would take a late model empty switch clam shell to house that cable end, or find a chopper style single throttle assembly and use one pull cable and eliminate the safety return. CAUTION: A sharp curved aftermarket throttle end like a 90° curve, will saw thru the 90 curve and hold the throttle open, thus the safety return cable.

Solved problem 2: Barnett shows right off with the twist of the throttle, the smooth quality difference between chinese [alleged] junk and American made. https://www.barnettclutches.com/

Problem 3: The brake and clutch masters can be had by either Harley or the aftermarket by Performance Machine.

Solved problem 3: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/performance-machine-radial-brake-master-cylinder-for-harley

Problem 4: The 1" handlebar mounts comes in two flavors. That would be the single mount or the individual mount.

Solved problem 4: Single mounts can be placed closer or wider across the top of the crown. The single mount is handcuffed to the fixed one piece mount of the clam shell, so the individual is the way to go. Lots of combos to choose from.

Problem 5: Extend brake/clutch cables; banjo bolt style, certain angle(s), etc.

Solved problem 5: https://www.galferusa.com/products/custom-line-builder/

Problem 6: The top crown mount.

Solved problem 6: Seems the triple tree uses the same part number from first gen to whatever year is shown of the other url. That too says top crown still fits over those 3 holes. There is where you buy the top crown and drill the Harley mounts and bars so its easier all around to swap.
